Job Summary:
The Tournament Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing all poker tournaments conducted within the card room. This position ensures tournaments are operated efficiently, fairly, and in compliance with California gaming regulations, casino policies, and established tournament rules. The Tournament Director delivers exceptional guest service while maintaining game integrity, resolving disputes, and creating an enjoyable experience for players.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and execute daily, weekly, and special event poker tournaments.
- Complete all set up and break down of all tournaments start to finish.
- Enforce all tournament rules and procedures consistently and impartially.
- Ensure compliance with California gambling laws, card room policies, and internal controls.
- Conduct tournament announcements, player briefings, and rule explanations.
- Manage tournament registration, seating assignments, player movement, balancing tables, and payouts.
- Monitor tournament progress and adjust blind structures or schedules as approved by management.
- Resolve player disputes professionally and make final rulings on tournament-related matters.
- Coordinate with poker dealers, floor supervisors, cage personnel, surveillance, and security to ensure smooth tournament operations.
- Verify prize pools, payouts, and tournament records for accuracy.
- Assist in developing tournament schedules, promotions, and special events to increase participation.
- Maintain accurate tournament documentation and operational reports.
- Monitor player behavior and ensure compliance with casino standards of conduct.
- Address guest concerns promptly while providing outstanding customer service.
- Train and mentor poker staff on tournament procedures and best practices.
- Recommend operational improvements to enhance tournament efficiency and guest satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; college coursework in hospitality, business, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of poker room experience, including tournament operations or supervisory responsibilities.
- Extensive knowledge of poker tournament formats, including No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, and mixed games.
- Thorough understanding of Tournament Directors Association (TDA) rules and procedures.
- Knowledge of California card room regulations and internal controls preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong customer service orientation with professional interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with tournament management software and standard computer applications.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
